Shibuya StreetDance Week is the largest street dance festival
in the country with the aim of establishing a new art culture
supported by a wide range of people and bringing high-quality
entertainment to the world from Shibuya that is the holy site of
street dancers to make the city more vibrant. While the
attention is focused on the power of dance to “enrich
communication with friends", the first event held in 2015
included a variety of programs that brought together
"expressionist (dancer)", "participant (audience)" and "stage”,
and a total of 13,500 people participated. In 2016, the special
programs that could only be experienced in SSDW were also
held, such as various dance stages and battles where the city
of Shibuya was filled with excitement, “Open-Air Dance Class”
where a total of 100 people danced together, and "Street
Dance Championship for High School students" where dance
clubs competed fiercely.
